A birthday party, two blueberries in my left ear and a hello to age 30.

I celebrated my birthday with my girlfriend and a couple of close friends yesterday. It was a small ordeal but the impact was explosive. Partly because I was egged (really hard eggs mind you) and covered in flour most of the time. I was not pissed. In fact, I expected it; but my friends kept their cool in order to keep my expectation at an all time low. All time low? Why? Well BECAUSE I REALLY WANTED TO BE EGGED AND COVERED IN FLOUR! And just before I turn 30, I wanted it to happen badly. Completing it meant that I have grown up. I am a full-fledged man. And above all, I have completed the rite of passage to awesomeness.

I wish the rest of my friends were there. But the company I was with was enough to create havoc – to the max. I guess it’s true what ‘they’ say; great things come in small packages. But deep down in my heart, I am glad there were only a bunch of us. I have never been good with crowds and that’s not because I am an introvert. In fact, I have a nice blend of intro and extro. So that makes me an INEXTROVERTor EXINTROVERT. A blend of a quiet fellow that talks moderately. I’m assuming by the way.  So please don’t take my word for it.

Anyways, let’s not digress and get to the good bits. So there we were, eating away happily and as usual, I thought nothing was going to happen. How could I? Everyone was just having a good time. Even two of my school buddies kept their cool! (even though they were part of the schenanigans).  Nonetheless, when our tummies were fat and happy, it was time for me to cut the cake. Now I knew something was up when they asked me to sit towards a specific direction- because everyone else was behind me when they sang happy birthday.

Still being naïve, I just made my wish, blew the candle and sliced a piece of cake. And my gf came and fed the first slice – RIGHT INTO MY FACE. And lo and behold, flour was in my mouth, nose, eyes and ears. But what came next was unexpected. Someone mentioned that my car had a huge scratch. So I hurried over to them, even if my mouth was filled with chocolate cake and flour, to check it out. Now, at this point I couldn’t see anything because I took of my spectacle. And it was covered with cake! So when my friends asked me to bend over to see the scratch, an unexpected blueberry cake slammed right into my face and my left ear!

I didn’t expect that.

But that was not the end of it. In fact it was a far cry from over. People started egging me. And to make it worse, the eggs were freaking hard as hell! My friends, one by one, kept smacking me with the egg over and over again until it broke.  It was pain I tell you. I thought the egg bit was the easiest part of all. It didn’t look painful when I watch other people going through it. I must’ve gotten some messed up rock egg.

By now, my grandmother’s front porch had turned into a battlefield. Flour covered the pavement accompanied with eggshells. Bits and pieces of a once solid blueberry cake were all over my car, as well as flour. My poor white car.

The aftermath was intense but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now it was time to take a shower. A well needed shower. But it was a mistake for me to assume the party was over.

Feeling fresh and new, I went out to help my buddies to clean the mess.  I helped them sweep some of the flour. But for that brief moment, I knew something was fishy. All of them were standing within a distance; as if something was about to happen to me, again.

Cold water poured over me followed by white flour. I was punked once more. My gut feel was right but not enough to save me from this.

Nonetheless, it was good fun. I enjoyed every second of it.
