Part One

Rae laughed.

He stood at the front door of Naga DDB. The logo was ingrained on the walls before him, separated by the plexiglass door. A strong gust of wind lightly touched his hair. Time, for once, stood still. Yet for one brief moment, laughter coming from the inside began to fill in the void and the wind suddenly howled louder than normal. But the plexiglass door remained motionless.

The door before him was only a solid thin glass that could easily be broken into pieces. It was the only obstacle that he could not destroy. It was created to stop people like him. So that the world would be safe from the dangers that are lurking beyond.

His body leaned back against the wind. It was a body of curvy lines and angles, each curve broken into planes. He stood, rigid, his hands hanging at his sides, palms out. He felt his shoulder blades drawn tight together, the curve of his neck, and the weight of his blood in his hands. He felt the wind behind him, in the hollow of his spine. The wind waved against his hair against the door. His hair was neither green nor brown, but the exact color of jet black darkness.

He laughed at the thing which had happened to him that morning and at the things which now lay ahead.

He knew that the days ahead would be difficult. There were questions to be faced and a plan of action to be prepared. He knew that he should think about it. He knew also that he would not think, because everything was clear to him already, because the plan had been set long ago, and because he wanted to laugh.

He tried to consider it. But he forgot. He was looking at the Naga DDB logo.
