It was a good day.
Although I don't understand what Ice Cube was rapping about in 'It was a good day', I felt that the song was apt for my day.
A few hours ago, I discovered from my girlfriend that I was some sort of a blog celebrity (squeals like a Japanese school girl!). Apparently a colleague of hers knew me through my blog- Melayu Bercakap American; the best part of all was that she never met me. Now in this rare cases, I would acknowledge this, nod graciously and move on. It's cooler that way you know? No self respecting celeb would overreact over this; it's lame.
Unfortunately, I failed to contain the excitement. My cool, calm and classy Clint Eastwood look only lasted for 2-3 minutes, tops. I was snickering and giggling like PeeWee Herman!!! ( 90s babies, you know this fella). Who would've thought that I would be a semi well-known figure on the net? I was ecstatic!
Yet that was not the cherry on top.
After a while, I received a message from my colleague (my girlfriend saw a tweet on my phone) that one of my work (gasp!) won a Silver in the Malaysian Effies 2012! What's this show about, you say? The Malaysian Effies is an advertising award show that celebrates the best advertising that is effective as well as creative. It is the only advertising award show that celebrates real work.
This win was my second win; the first was in 2010.
Alhamdullilah, I'm grateful to God Almighty for these blessings. Because I've been praying hard to win an ad award since 2011. After the painful experience of not winning the Kancils Awards 2012 ( an ad show that celebrates real creative work, but not effective), I needed something to bounce back. This win was timely.
Forgive me if I'm chest thumping in this article but that's not the intention. My intentions were merely to share these wonderful pieces of news and let you know giving up is not an option. Even in your darkest hours. For when you are going down, there's no way else to go but up.
Cheesy. I know. But that depends on how you look at things.
