Yasmin Ahmad

I know what you're thinking, another blogger who's gonna write something either good or bad about her.

Well you're half right and half wrong.

This is gonna be something special. Something really special for my blog. Rarely do I write about people (or celebutants) that i admire the most and i detest the most. It only happens on special occasions. But these things always have a point. But if they don't, at least I'm pretty sure it's gonna score some comments.

Yasmin Ahmad. What can I say about her? A thinker, teacher, director, writer, muslim, mix malay, daughter, woman, wife but most of all...a human being. She was my boss when I was looking for a job in advertising. She was the first person to hire me. To really understand Yasmin is not all that hard. You can understand her through her ever enduring and lighthearted Petronas commercials. Or her movies. Her speeches. Her comments. Her infectious smile that lights up a room. And yes, I'm starting with what is her good side.

Yasmin is a kind and caring human being. She's a sharp observer and she deserves to be a graduate of a student that understand humans. Her motto is that "Emotion is difficult to be logical with, but it is what moves people". She's not cynical yet her words can be piercing enough. Like Jim Aitchison said, the written word is the sharpest dagger of all. Her repertoire of skills extends from singing, karaokeing, writing and film direction. I have yet to see her directing a music video but all in good time i guess. Recently I had the chance to see her in Bali during the Media Spikes Awards and I'll never forget the laughter from the audience around the world, the moment they saw Tan Hong Ming. Over and over...and over and over again. No SFX. No crazy digital. No nothing. Just pure realism.

And none of us can question that brilliant piece. Even the judges.

So what? Is there a point to this. Of course there is. It's bound to come up.

Yet there is a bad side to Yasmin Ahmad. Oh yes. Not every human being is perfect. God created us to be imperfect because only God is perfect. Yasmin has a huge flaw.

She's just too darn positive and caring!

No one I know radiates that as much as her. And her blog is gaining both fame and notoriety. She should know well enough that the more famous and greater she becomes, more people will lavish her with appraises and compliments and morale support.

She also knew there will be some haters.

It's inevitable. Hence for the past few years that I read her blog, I can't help but feeling entertained with all the dramas and the shenanigans that is happening in there. Come to think of it, if there's no haters, there will be no entertainment. Although i do hope that was not her intention.

Nevertheless, if you haven't catch the point or understand one, then good riddance. I doubt you will.

For those who did, don't bullshit! or intellectualize with me cuz I'm the one that wrote this piece. And if i can't get the point, how the hell can you ?

In conclusion, Yasmin is not a perfect human being. She may be a misfit, a rebel, a trouble maker. She sees things differently. You can quote her, disagree with her, glorify or vilify her but the one thing you can't do is ignore her. Because she touches peoples heart*.

Assalamulaikum
