A bank tvc that doesn't look like a bank tvc.

A friend of mine from Indonesia came down to Malaysia to do her final mixing for her latest tvc: a banking client that she just won recently. We met up yesterday just to catch up and had a nice dinner at Nirwana, Bangsar.

Then she showed me the TVC.

We talked a lot from the moment I picked her up at the hotel, while we were in the car, and while we were having dinner. But the only thing I remembered the most from our meet was when she shared her new tvc for her banking client. Even though the tvc was still not polished ( we call it offline stage in advertising term. The final would be called online), I thought it was ready to be shown on mainstream media. I remember the words, the music, the visual and the emotion that were all intertwined beautifully like a carefully crafted spider web; or a majestic painting.

My eyes welled up even before the tvc ended;  this would happen to me when I watched a Yasmin Ahmad commercial or film. And I think that's the highest compliment my friend could ever get from me. After all, she deserved it. I can see she poured hard work and emotion into this piece of art.Yes, I call it a piece of art because to call it a tvc didn't seem right. Not for that moment at least.

For a moment, there was a tinge of jealousy nagging at me. This is the stuff that always reminded me the reason I still love advertising. It's great creatives like her that makes the advertising life a never-ending stream of surprises.

Thank you again Diona. You.Are.Fucking.Good.
