Death is coming for the young.

First and foremost,I DIDN'T PUT A BRAD PITT picture because I have a man crush on him!(although I would have one if I was a woman. I mean who wouldn't right?) The reason why he is there is because I'm tired of the typical archetype of death - which dons black clothing, carries a large scythe and apparently lacks in the meat section. And scary as hell.

But there's a reason why I put death in this post.

Recently, I had the honour of meeting up with my old college mates from Lim Kok Wing. And it was a fruitful one. Everyone was laughing, eating and just simply having good clean fun. Although there were only four of us (yes, i'm not that like able amongst my peers).

However, our cheery, colourful conversation went a bit dark when Nome started talking about his office colleague. Apparently, his colleague was diagnosed with kidney failure because of his chronic drinking. And the sad part of all is that he is only 26 years old!

At that point I started to wonder. Are the young really dying fast nowadays? Is it a trend? Or is it just that our working environment is harsher, longer and more stressful?

I would like to point out that the third statement is closer to my heart. Because I am one of them. At the tender age of 27-28, I found out that I may have a light case of kidney stones. KIDNEY STONES for Allah sakes! I thought old people get that.

But surprisingly, the old are living older. Or longer to be exact. So, the picture here does not seem right. And this is where we, as young people should think seriously about the way we are leading our lifestyle. Smoking, drinking, getting high, not eating, dieting, not working out, not eating healthy. These are all the bad habits I see around me. And including the amount of stress the work poses on to us, it is fairly justified that we seriously need to recalibrate our lifestyle. Yes, I repeated that twice. Which should be seared in our mind!

So, to my fellow practitioners who are working in a career that has all the unhealthy things I just mentioned, PLEASE. Please take good care of yourselves. I'm not telling you to live your life in fear and like an old citizen. But at least remember that our lives are still fragile. Whether we are young or old.

That way you can postpone your meeting with Death.
