Doubts

A good friend of mine asked me a very good question yesterday night,

“Have I ever had any doubts about being good/talented in advertising?”

Usually I would shudder in fear or even scowl at the louse that dares to ask me this question, but, in light of what I have achieved so far, talent was not enough and this question no longer bothered me. See, no one I know in this world is special, with the exception of the Prophet Muhammad. He was the greatest creation by God. In fact, give him ten job recs and he can crack it, give award winning ideas and execute it splendidly in one day. That’s how special he is.

For the rest of us, hard work is the key to being good or talented. There’s no secret. And the thing about doubts is that it only exists for a fleeting moment, like a speck of dust, like a candle that is slowly melting away. In fact, having doubts is good. It keeps you on your toes. It makes you think on how to make yourself better. This is a good sign that you refuse to be stagnant.

So, have I ever had doubts?

My answer to you is a big fat YES.

And once you accept that, you’ll be at peace with yourself and you’ll start working doubly hard.

And from the words of the great Neil French, “Luck is not everything, but, the harder you work, the greater the luck.”

Maybe for some other people having doubts might mean that you're on the wrong path...?
Read my previous post "How to be the best in your respective field."

There's something I said in the end to answer that question.
